Pizza Review: Fresh Flavors at Blaze Pizza in Cypress, TX with Houston Food Fanatics | V0003

🍕 Calling all pizza lovers! We just tried Blaze Pizza’s Carnivore and Pepperoni pizzas, plus their spicy cheese bread—and WOW, we’re hooked! Watch our review to see why Blaze Pizza is a must-try i…

Blaze Pizza's Cypress grand opening made a strong case for the crust before the toppings even finished the job

A grand opening with a line for free pizza is not the easiest place to judge a restaurant calmly. Blaze Pizza's Cypress location was handing out pizzas to the community, so HFF brought the food home rather than trying to film in the middle of the rush. That gave the Carnivore, pepperoni pizza and spicy cheese bread a little travel time before the tasting — and the pizza still came across as fresh, airy and well built.

The crust sat in a useful middle ground

The dough was one of the first things that stood out. It was thinner than a heavy pan pizza without becoming brittle or cracker-like, with an airy, pita-like chew that kept the slices light. That middle-ground texture mattered because Blaze lets customers pile on toppings and sauces without turning the whole pizza into a dense slab. Even after the ride home, the crust still had enough life to get positive reactions.

The Carnivore's meatball actually tasted seasoned

The Carnivore combined pepperoni, ham and meatball, with a pesto drizzle and the option to tweak sauces and cheese. The meatball was the detail that separated it from the generic 'meat lovers' formula. Instead of tasting like plain ground beef scattered on a pizza, it brought noticeable seasoning and held its own against the other meats. The build-your-own flexibility also meant a named pizza did not have to be taken exactly as listed, which fit the fast-casual setup well.

The spicy cheese bread was more seasoned than spicy

The cheese bread looked like it might bring real heat, but the topping read more like herbs and seasoning than something designed to burn. That was not a deal-breaker because the bread and cheese were still enjoyable, but the name oversold the spice. Calling it seasoned cheese bread would have been closer to the actual experience. On a hectic grand-opening day, it was also possible the seasoning landed lighter than usual, so the tasting treated that as context rather than a fatal flaw.

Cypress got more than a free-pizza stunt

The grand-opening giveaway pulled people through the door, but the food gave HFF a reason to leave with a positive impression. The crust worked, the pizzas tasted fresh even after being taken home, the Carnivore had enough flavor to distinguish its toppings, and the ordering model allowed plenty of customization. Add an app, online ordering and a drive-through pickup window, and the Cypress location made a practical case for coming back after the free-pizza crowd was gone.
