Six Peeps flavors turned into a test of how much sugar can hide a flavor
Peeps are already marshmallows rolled in sugar, so asking them to taste like birthday cake, Rice Krispie treats, cotton candy, chocolate pudding, Dr Pepper or cinnamon gives every flavor the same problem: can anything break through all that sweetness? Elliot was more than willing to find out before Easter. By the end, the table was covered in sugar and the biggest surprise was how many varieties still tasted mostly like regular Peeps.
The first few flavors barely escaped the marshmallow
Party Cake showed only a faint cake note at the end, and Rice Krispie Treat smelled more distinctive than it tasted. Cotton Candy finally brought a little recognizable flavor, but even that stayed subtle under the familiar marshmallow-and-sugar base. The visual differences made the lineup look more varied than the early bites actually felt, which is part of the challenge with flavored Peeps: the original candy is already so sweet and specific that a new flavor has to fight its way through.
Chocolate pudding was the first one that really changed the candy
Chocolate Pudding stood apart because the marshmallow itself carried chocolate flavor instead of relying only on a coating or aroma. It was the first variety that clearly tasted like its name, and it came across as less one-dimensionally sweet than some of the others. For an adult palate already starting to hit sugar fatigue, that made it one of the easier flavors to appreciate.
Dr Pepper and cinnamon never became as loud as expected
Dr Pepper showed up mostly in the aftertaste, and cinnamon seemed like the flavor most likely to overpower the basic Peep formula but still stayed fairly restrained. By then the amount of sugar was becoming part of the review on its own. Sampling six Peeps back to back makes subtle differences harder to appreciate, and it also explains why these candies make more sense as one or two Easter treats than as a serious tasting flight.
The kid and adult favorites split for good reasons
Elliot picked Party Cake as his favorite, while the Chocolate Pudding version made the strongest case from the adult side because it tasted genuinely different and felt less dominated by plain sugar. That split fits Peeps pretty well. These are playful seasonal candies first, nuanced flavor experiments second. If the goal is colorful Easter fun, nearly all six do the job. If the goal is finding a flavor that truly changes the marshmallow, chocolate had the clearest advantage.
