Underbelly Burger Closes Its Spring Branch Location
Underbelly Burger has closed its Spring Branch restaurant on Witte Road, ending service September 13 after the concept announced the decision on social media.

Underbelly Burger has closed its Spring Branch location at 1222 Witte, with September 13 announced as the restaurant’s final day of service.
The concept shared the decision on social media, thanking guests and employees and describing the closure as a difficult choice. No detailed reason for the shutdown was publicly provided.
From the Houston Farmers Market to Spring Branch
Underbelly Burger began at the Houston Farmers Market in 2021 as part of the Underbelly Hospitality portfolio. The burger concept was developed with a focus on high-quality beef, including work with R-C Ranch, and carried the Underbelly name into a more casual format.
The Witte Road location opened in November 2023, giving the restaurant a second neighborhood home in Spring Branch. By the time the closure was announced, the original Farmers Market location was also no longer operating normally, leaving the future of the brand uncertain.
Another change for Underbelly Hospitality
The closure follows several years of changes across the broader Underbelly Hospitality group. Other concepts in the portfolio have been sold or closed, including Wild Oats and Georgia James Steakhouse.
Houston restaurant groups evolve constantly, but the Underbelly name carries particular weight because of its connection to a major era of the city’s modern dining scene. That makes even a casual burger concept’s closure noteworthy for longtime local diners.
What we know now
No replacement Underbelly Burger location has been announced. The company’s public statement focused on gratitude to the staff and customers rather than future plans.
If the concept returns in another form or a new restaurant takes over the Spring Branch space, HFF will continue following the changes. For now, the Witte Road restaurant is closed.
